Well that's it for now, I must get back to the bench! I'll pop back next week with some eye-candy for you all! xxx

At the bench 24/06/15

Wowee what a week, sorry for not posting last Wednesday - exam prep got a little out of hand! Mid year exams are done and dusted. Time to get back to the bench and pick up where I left off :)
There are a number of 'clean and polishes' sitting in the job pile at the moment, it's always good to maintain the shine in your jewellery, the results can be quite surprising if your jewellery hasn't been tended to recently. Here are a few that have come by in the recent months for some TLC.

I have a fully set up workshop here, so I can complete maintenance work as well as custom design and re-modelling, I am set up for rhodium plating, re-sizing and repairs. No job is too big or too small.

At the bench 11.06.2015

Oh dear, time got away from me yesterday and I didn't get a chance to post from the bench!
This next week is crammed full of work and study as I prepare for my mid year gemmology exams.
It may be cold and dreary now but many people are busy preparing for their wedding's this upcoming spring/summer. Do you know someone who would be interested in handmade wedding rings? Here are a sample of rings I've made in the past.

I have a few bookings left throughout the year for wedding rings, please get in contact for a quote and design consultation.

At the bench 03.06.2015

Happy Birthday June babies! Don't you have a lovely birthstone - Pearls!
Design choices are endless with this beautiful gem of the sea :)
If I can't decide on what to wear with an outfit, my pearl studs are my go-to piece. Simple, classy, elegant.

A couple of jewellery collections were dropped in for maintenance this week. The pieces are examined to ensure that they are still in a wearable condition, if they're not I do the necessary repairs once given the go ahead by my client. If I'm satisfied that they are wearable then it's a simple clean and polish.
Speaking of collections, not so long ago Mum and I went through her jewellery box; I was astounded at how much there was that she didn't wear anymore! I asked her why, she shrugged her shoulders "some doesn't fit, some are broken or I just don't love that style anymore." Surprise, surprise we sorted through what was there and there is enough material that is no longer wanted to make a bangle that she's been dying to get me to make! Yay! Now to work on the design to make sure it's perfect :)

Old, broken, no longer wanted jewellery doesn't need to sit in the bottom of jewellery box never to see the light of day again! Contact me, we can go through your collection and sort through it - some of it, if not all of it should be able to be recycled into something new!

A fresh new start...

Today I took some time away from the bench to get this page back up and running! It has been long overdue, however the bench work has been non-stop since Boxing Day (yes, the day after Christmas last year....), BUT I did take my first week off last week with a short trip to Port Douglas. First time visiting but we'll be back for sure, the weather was glorious and the seafood even better! What a rude shock it was to come home to 4 degrees!
This week there are a couple of pendants underway, several ring resizes, a few stock pieces to be made, a new idea was born early in the week which I'm very excited to get started on soon. This little one I finished on Monday or Tuesday... time flies when you're having fun!

The days are certainly getting shorter, the heater (a very welcomed new addition) is on keeping the workshop nice and warm whilst I work. Though it's cold I still take some time in the day to wander my gardens, the roses have their last flush of blooms for this season, the ornamentals are shedding their spring-summer coat, leaving trails of beautiful burnt orange and yellow leaves over the lawns. The frosts are here, and before long I'll be up much earlier so I can start the winter maintenance in the garden before I head in to the workshop - for those who don't know, I love my garden, particularly my roses, I have over 70... it's a little hard to keep count Ô

Now back to the jewellery - have your rings had a good clean recently? If they're looking a tad under the weather give me a buzz or pop through a message. I'll be more than happy to bring them back up to sparkling for you.

Here are a couple more pictures to leave you with that remind me of my garden, and jewellery of course, every season is beautiful, I'll capture a few more to share with you later in the year Ô

Ben & Isobel's wedding rings, resting in Isobel's beautiful bouquet of roses.

The cheeky autumn leaves running freely all over the lawn remind me of this Hessonite Garnet; I purchased this stone in October last year... I'm thinking a ring... Undecided whether I should go yellow gold or silver... And if it's one for the personal collection or one for you Ô

I'll be back next Wednesday with another update from the bench, until then - keep smiling ÔÔ
